※　今の日本なら自動車がその役割となるのだろうがボートは女性にもてるための道具なのだろう。そのボートを一生懸命漕ぎながら恋人といちゃいちゃ (spoon) する精力的な若者の姿をスケッチしたコミックソング。
By the Light of the Silvery Moon にも spoon という表現が出てきたが、『ジャズ詩大全20巻』によるとこの表現は「男女が横になって抱き合う姿が、スプーンを二つ並べたようなかたちなので、こういう表現ができたらしい」とある。

初期レコードは Ada Jones が大ヒットさせ、エディ・カンターなどのヴォードヴィルの大物が歌うようになった。後にビング・クロスビー、スパイク・ジョーンズなどがレコーディングしている。
映画では、ベティ・ハットンが Incendiary Blonde (1945), デビー・レイノルズとカールトン・カーペンターが Two Weeks With Love (1950), Keefe Braselle （エディ・カンターによるダブ）の The Eddie Cantor Story (1953), ボブ・ホープと子供たちによる The Seven Little Foys (1955) で歌われたが、「カッスル夫妻」 (The Story of Vernon and Irene Castele, 1939), 英国映画「素晴らしき戦争」 (Oh! What a Lovely War!, 1964) でも聞かれる。
