ビックス・バイダーベックの演奏とヴォーカリーズ
今も残る有名な演奏はフランキー・トランバウアーとビックス・バイダーベックの1927の録音だろう。ジャズ演奏にアドリブも含め歌詞をつけて歌うことをヴォーカリーズといい、ランバート、ヘンドリックス＆ロス、初期のマンハッタン・トランスファーのパフォーマンスがが有名だが、史上初のヴォーカリーズ・パフォーマンスは歌手＆ダンサーのビー・パーマーによって録音された（バックはトランバウアー楽団）。
ビー・パーマーの録音は金切声で古い録音のせいもあり聞くに堪えないところがあるが、1934年にロンドンのデッカ・レコードに録音したマリオン・ハリスのパフォーマンスは、テンポを自在に変えジャズ・パフォーマンスとして一級のものだろう。ただしイギリス発売ということでアメリカでは評判にならず、評論家の Will Friedwald によって 1960年代に発掘されるまで日の目を見ることはなかったようだ。参考のためそれぞれのヴォーカリーズ歌詞を載せ、下の YouTube リンクで各聞き比べができるようリスト・アップした。
