※ 長年恋人だった男に魅力を感じなくなり愛想尽かしする歌で、ワゴンというのは男の肉体を暗示しているのだろう。歌手によって多少歌詞が異なるので、ベッシー・スミスの歌唱とダイナ・ワシントンの２種類の歌詞訳をのせた。
もとは 1925年にベッシー・スミスがコロンビア・レコードに録音したポピュラー・ブルースで、作詞・作曲は （おそらく） ベッシー・スミス＆ステュアート・バルコムと思われる。バルコムに関してはその素性は不明であるが歌手・ピアニストのペリー・ブラッドフォードのことと推測するネット記事もある。
歌っているのは、ベッシー・スミス以外に、ダイナ・ワシントン、リル・グリーン、ファニタ・ホール、テレサ・ブルーワー、そしてフォーク・シンガーのデイヴ・ヴァン・ロンクなどがいる。
同名異曲の存在と著作者の混同：
上記作者名の紹介で、カッコ書きで "おそらく" と書いたのはベッシー・スミスの歌が、書籍やネットでも作詞ミスター・ビラ― Mr. Biller (John Biller)、作曲ベン・ハーネイ Ben Harney (Benjamin Robertson Harney) としている例やそれ以外の作者が書かれている資料が少なからずあるからだ。 しかし Harney and Biller で書かれた同名曲は 1896 年に作られた歌でベッシー・スミスの歌とは歌詞、曲ともに異なる歌のようだ。
補足：
１． 書籍『ティン・パン・アリー辞典』によると、1896年に書かれた最初のポピュラー・ラグタイム・ソングで、作曲 Ben Harney、作詞 Mr. Biller 、1920年代後半にベッシー・スミスが復活させたときは、よりブルース的なものにしたとある。
また多くの音楽研究者によると最初のラグタイム・ソングであり、いわゆる『クーン・シャウト』（黒人を侮蔑した歌）でハーネイはミンストレル・ショーで『スティック・ダンス』として紹介し、後にメイ・アーウィンがヴォードヴィルで広めたとある。
２． ナット・シャピロ監修による書籍『ポピュラー・ミュージック Vol. 5 1920-1929』では、1925 年、You've Been a Good Ole Wagon の欄は、"Words and Music by John Henry (pseudonym for Perry Bradford), MCA, Inc. ; first recording by Bessie Smith (Columbia) " と書かれている。
SecondHandSongs の検索では、Stuart Balcom はミュージシャンの Perry Bradford (本名 John Henry）の可能性がある旨が書かれている。
３． あるミュージック・シートの販売サイト Pianomom's Sheet Music では Dave Van Ronk の楽譜があるが、 Harney & Biller とクレディットされている（歌はベッシー・スミス版）。
４． Jasrac 検索では、登録されている外国曲の You've Been a Good Old Wagon は４曲があり、そのうち Bessie Smith が歌った曲は、作曲作詞：BALCOMB STUART V、出版社：不明 、そして Alamo Pigmeat が歌ったものは、作曲作詞：BRADFORD PERRY, HENRY JOHN となっている。
５． ハーネイ版の Wagon の紹介をした、Library of Congress のページ脚注では、『似たようなタイトルのブルース曲 "You're a Good Old Wagon, But Daddy You've Done Broke Down," は、Bessie Smith and Stuart Balcom によって書かれ1925年にコロンビア・レコードで録音されたと』ある。
６． 1896年版の方は、1925年にペリー・ブラッドフォードが版権登録をしたことで後にハーネイが訴え裁判沙汰となったというネット資料もある（ドイツ語版 Wiki ）
