※ 初期ティン・パン・アリーの歌によくあるテーマ、In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree, When You Were Sweet Sixteen, Love's Old Sweet Song などと同様に老人が若き日の思い出に浸るをテーマにしたお涙頂戴歌 (tear jerker)
多作な作詞家ガス・カーン最初のヒット曲で当時はガスタフ・カーンで発表していた。
作曲のエグバート・ヴァン・アルスタインはティン・パン・アリーの作曲家で、 Beautiful Love, In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree, Pretty Baby などが今もスタンダードとして残っている。
Jon Barnes Welles がヴォードヴィルで歌い人気曲となったが、アイリッシュ・テナーのジョン・マコーマックが録音し、しばらくの間彼のコンサート・レパートリーとなっていた。多くの映画のBGMとして時代を写すシーンで使われ、ガス・カーンの伝記映画 I'll See You in My Dreams (1952) や Tin Pan Alley (1940) などではその歌が聞かれる。
