という表現はいかにもシンガー・ソングライターの作る歌詞と感じる。
overflow とは溢れ出るほど豊富ということか、それとも人間の優しさが無駄に流れ出ることなのか？正直な所よく分からない歌だが、ひしひしとした寂寞感、疎外感を受ける歌。
シンガー・ソングライターであるランディ・ニューマンが1968年に彼の最初のアルバムに収録した曲。ニーナ・シモン以外にも、ジュディ・コリンズ、エヴァリー・ブラザーズ、クローディヌ・ロンジェ、ダスティ・スプリングフィールドなどもカヴァーしたニューマンの初期スタンダード。
ランディ・ニューマンの父方の叔父、アルフレッド・ニューマン、ライオネル・ニューマン、エミール・ニューマンはいずれも映画音楽家であるが、ランディ自身も後に映画音楽家となりディズニー／ピクサー映画の作品などを手掛けるようになった。
